Human Factors in Safety

Two day In-company programme

This course aims to enable delegates to use their knowledge of human factors to influence individual and organisational behaviour and effect cultural change in their organisation.

Objectives

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Identify areas where human factors may exert an influence on the organisational system
  • Define the limiting factors of the individual which may undermine optimum and efficient human performance
  • Describe the process of human information processing and identify why and how errors may occur
  • Include human factors as the primary causal influence over risk when planning for preventative and protective measures
  • Apply the principles of critical analysis techniques to recognise episodes of actual (or potential) adverse human agency and map their influences onto undesirable (incident) outcomes
  • Create a design brief for the incorporation of ergonomically sound principles
  • Develop procedures and safe systems of work from a human factors perspective
  • Identify opportunities for the application of behavioural-change "leverage" with a view to improve conformity with procedures
  • Develop an in-house error rate data inventory and complete a probability analysis for a critical task
